DUBLIN, Ohio, June 5 (UPI) -- Jim Furyk rolled in an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole Friday that moved him into a share of the lead at the midway point of the Memorial Tournament.
Furyk -- winner of this event seven years ago and a former U.S. Open champion -- shot a 2-under 70 over the Muirfield Village Golf Club course for a 36-hole total of 137. That tied him at the top with Jonathan Byrd, who shot a 68 in a bid to win for the fourth time on the PGA Tour.
Mike Weir and Mark Wilson were tied for third at 138 while Ryuji Imada and Matt Bettencourt were both at 139.
The large group at 140 included Ernie Els, Davis Love III, Stewart Cink, first-round leader Luke Donald and Steve Marino -- who lost in a playoff to Steve Stricker at last week's Colonial Invitational.
Donald, author of the tournament's low score with his first-round 64, stumbled to a 76 Friday.
Tiger Woods, meanwhile, could manage only a 74 for a two-day total of 1-under 143. That was well inside the 36-hole cut line, but 23 players will be starting in front of him Saturday.
The 74 was the highest score for Woods this year in 22 stroke-play rounds. He last shot a 74 in the second round of the 2007 British Open.
