WASHINGTON, June 4 (UPI) -- Randy Johnson allowed two hits through six innings Thursday, becoming the 24th pitcher to win 300 games in San Francisco's 5-1 victory over Washington.
Johnson's milestone victory came in the first game of a doubleheader.
The five-time Cy Young Award winner allowed only one baserunner through the first four innings -- a one-out walk to Nick Johnson in the fourth -- and left the game with a 2-1 lead. San Francisco produced a three-run ninth, all but wrapping up the historic victory.
Johnson, 45, became the fifth pitcher since 1990 to reach 300 wins and the first since Tom Glavine did so in 2007. Only three other active pitchers have 200 wins and it is not likely that any of them will get to 300.
Philadelphia's Jamie Moyer, 46, has 250 triumphs. Andy Pettitte has 220 and John Smoltz 210.
Johnson, who ranks second behind Nolan Ryan on the all-time strikeout list with 4,845, improved to 5-4 for the season. He won his first game on Sept. 15, 1988, while with the Montreal Expos.
His bid for win No. 300 was delayed after his scheduled start Wednesday night was rained out. Thursday's contest was also delayed at the start for 36 minutes.
The loss went to Jordan Zimmerman (2-3), who allowed only two runs on three hits over six innings.
Johnson was followed to the mound by Brandon Medders, Jeremy Affeldt and Brian Wilson, who struck out Adam Dunn with the bases loaded to end the eighth.
