NEW YORK, June 4 (UPI) -- Melky Cabrera's two-run eighth-inning homer Thursday boosted the New York Yankees to an 8-6 victory against the Texas Rangers.
Cabrera's only hit broke a 6-6 tie with one out in the bottom of the eighth.
Johnny Damon's lone hit was a lead-off solo homer in the first.
Mark Teixeira had two hits and three RBI.
Two others had one RBI and Nick Swisher had two hits for the Yankees, who have split their last four contests.
The winner was reliever David Robertson (1-0).
Closer Mariano Rivera earned his 12th save despite giving up two hits in the ninth.
Starter Chien-Ming Wang yielded five earned runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings
Chris Davis led Texas with two hits and two RBI.
Hank Blalock had two hits and one RBI.
Both Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler hit solo homers and Michael Young added three hits for the Rangers, who have lost three of four.
The losing pitcher was closer C.J. Wilson (3-3).
