PARIS, June 1 (UPI) -- Serena Williams posted an easy win but fifth-seeded Jelena Jankovic was defeated Monday in fourth-round play at the French Open in Paris.
Williams, the No. 2-ranked player in the world, cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over 24th-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak in 53 minutes. Williams won 58 percent of the points on Wozniak's serve and came away with five service breaks.
Williams has lost just two sets -- a first-round tiebreaker and a controversial 6-4 decision to Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez on Saturday -- in the tournament.
She goes against seventh-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarterfinals. Kuznetsova beat 12th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 and is 18-2 in her last four tournaments.
Unseeded 19-year-old Sorana Cirstea took out Jankovic 3-6, 0-6, 9-7. Jankovic hadn't lost more than three games in a set until the second set against Cirstea. In the third set, Cirstea was the aggressor and piled up 21 winners to seven for Jankovic in reaching her first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Cirstea's quarterfinal opponent is 30th-seeded Samantha Stosur, who was a 6-1, 6-2 winner Monday over Virginie Razzano. Stosur fired eight aces and didn't lose a service game in the win.
