MLB: N.Y. Mets 3, Florida 2

NEW YORK, May 31 (UPI) -- Omir Santos doubled in what proved to be the winning run in the seventh inning of the New York Mets' 3-2 victory over the visiting Florida Marlins.

Santos drove in the second run in a two-run seventh that helped make a winner of John Maine (5-3), who shut the Marlins out over six innings before leaving the game because he was not feeling well. Fernando Martinez doubled in the other run in the key inning.

Francisco Rodriguez pitched the ninth inning for his 14th save of the season.

Chris Volstad (4-4) took the loss. He gave up three runs on six hits over seven innings in his longest outing of the year.

The Mets hung a run on Volstad in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Wilson Valdez walked and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maine. Angel Pagan brought Valdez home with a two-out double.

Pagan started in center field in place of Carlos Beltran, another Met who was under the weather Sunday.

Florida posted a pair of runs in the eighth off J.J. Putz on RBI singles by Hanley Ramirez, who went 3-for-4, and Emilio Bonifacio.
