DENVER, May 31 (UPI) -- Brad Hawpe's ninth-inning RBI double Saturday gave the Colorado Rockies an 8-7 win over the San Diego Padres.
Hawpe's game-winner, his third hit and third RBI, came after an RBI single by Garrett Atkins had created a 7-7 tie. Both hits came after two men were out.
Atkins had two RBI. Clint Barmes had three runs, four hits and one RBI, while Todd Helton added one RBI for the Rockies, who try for a three-game sweep Sunday.
The winner was closer Huston Street (1-1).
The lone hit for San Diego's Adrian Gonzalez was a three-run first-inning homer. David Eckstein had two hits and an RBI in San Diego's third loss in its last four contests.
The losing pitcher was reliever Heath Bell (2-1).
The Padres activated slugger Cliff Floyd off the 15-day disabled list Saturday. He went to the DL April 5 because of a strained shoulder.
