CHICAGO, May 30 (UPI) -- Ryan Dempster hurled seven scoreless innings Saturday when the Chicago Cubs recorded a 7-0 rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Dempster (4-3) yielded just three hits in 99 pitches with one walk and five strikeouts. He had not held the opposing team scoreless in any of his previous 10 starts this season, and Saturday he lowered his ERA to 4.48.
Reed Johnson had three hits -- one a solo seventh-inning homer -- and two RBI. Mike Fontenot had two hits and two RBI, and a run scored on a double-play groundout by Bobby Scales in the fifth. Ryan Theriot had one RBI, while Milton Bradley added three hits for the Cubs, who have won two in a row.
Matt Kemp had two of the five hits for the Dodgers, who have lost two straight after a four-game winning streak.
Losing pitcher Eric Stults (4-2) surrendered four earned runs and six hits in three innings.
The Dodgers suffered their worst loss this season but still have the best record in baseball (34-17).
