Sources: Rose's high school grades changed

CHICAGO, May 29 (UPI) -- Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose received a grade bump from a "D" to a "C" the last semester of high school, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

A 2008 report by the inspector general of Chicago Public Schools states some students benefited from temporary grade inflation after graduation in June 2007 and sources said Rose was among four basketball players at Simeon High School to benefit from the changes on transcripts sent to colleges, the Sun-Times reported Friday.

CPS Inspector General James Sullivan declined to discuss the specifics of the case, but said the investigation did not result in any disciplinary measures.

"It's still a mystery who did this,'' Sullivan said. "At least seven people at Simeon had the ability to access student grades and records.''

Rose, the top NBA draft pick in 2008, was the subject of another academic scandal Wednesday when the Memphis Commercial Appeal printed parts of an NCAA letter detailing allegations a University of Memphis basketball player during the 2007-08 season applied to the school using scores from a SAT exam taken by a stand-in. Multiple sources identified the player as Rose to the Memphis paper.
