TORONTO, May 29 (UPI) -- A two-run single by Rod Barajas highlighted a five-run fifth inning Friday and Toronto halted a nine-game losing streak with a 6-3 decision over Boston.
Toronto opened a nine-game homestand with a much-needed victory that was keyed by the Blue Jays' big inning.
Casey Janssen (1-1), making his second start of the season after a long stay on the disabled list, got the win despite allowing 13 base runners over seven innings. He gave up three runs.
Scott Downs worked a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
Tim Wakefield (6-3) took the loss, surrendering six runs on nine hits in 4 2/3.
Boston owned a 2-1 lead going into the fifth, but Wakefield unraveled quickly after hitting Alex Rios with the first pitch of the inning. Vernon Wells forced Rios with a ground ball to third, then stole second and went to third on a grounder by Adam Lind. Wakefield needed only one more out to escape the inning, but he gave up an RBI double to Scott Rolen, walked Kevin Millar and allowed a double to Lyle Overbay that brought home Rolen.
Barajas then singled in both Millar and Overbay and Marco Scutaro doubled home Barajas with the final run of the inning.
