
ARLINGTON, Texas, May 29 (UPI) -- Andruw Jones and Nelson Cruz homered in the eighth inning Friday to lead Texas to a 6-3 win over Oakland in the first game of a doubleheader.
Jones hit a two-run shot to break a 3-3 tie with no outs in the eighth and Cruz followed with a solo blast.
Cruz had two hits, including a two-run first-inning double, for three RBI in all.
Jones also had two hits, while Marlon Byrd added a solo seventh-inning homer for the Rangers, who had lost two of three.
The winner was reliever C.J. Wilson (3-2).
Closer Frank Francisco, the last of five pitchers, earned his 11th save.
Oakland's Travis Buck had three hits -- one a second inning two-run homer.
Ryan Sweeney drove in a run, while Adam Kennedy added three hits for the Athletics, who have lost two in a row following a three-game winning streak.
The losing pitcher was reliever Santiago Casilla (1-2).
