Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 27 (UPI) -- Kansas City Royals Manager Trey Hillman has been suspended for one game following his ejection from a game this week.
Major League Baseball Vice President Bob Watson said Wednesday Hillman would miss one game and was fined an undisclosed amount for "inappropriate actions" during Monday's game. Managers cannot appeal suspensions, so Hillman was to miss the Royals' game Wednesday against Detroit.
Hillman was ejected in the eighth inning of Monday's 13-1 loss to Detroit after a strikeout by Kansas City infielder Willie Bloomquist. Umpire Paul Emmel pointed to the Royals' dugout after the strikeout and Hillman reacted with a nose-to-nose argument with him before another umpire separated them.
Hillman said he was trying to protect Bloomquist, since he'd already used all of his infielders in the game. It was his first ejection of the season.
Bench Coach John Gibbons was expected to take over Hillman's managerial duties for Wednesday's game.
