SANTA ANA, Calif., May 27 (UPI) -- A grand jury handed up a three-count indictment Wednesday in the case of an automobile crash last month that killed a Los Angeles Angels pitcher.

Nicholas Adenhart, who was in his fifth season of professional baseball, was one of three people killed in the April 9 wreck in Fullerton, Calif.

The indictments were returned against Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22, of San Gabriel, Calif. One felony count alleges Gallo fled the scene of a traffic collision involving death or permanent injury. He was also indicted for allegedly driving under the influence and causing injury, and driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol causing injury.

According to the Orange County District Attorney's office, Gallo has a prior conviction in San Bernardino County for driving under the influence in 2006 and that he was still on probation for that conviction at the time of the April crash.

Gallo faces a maximum life sentence if convicted. He is being held on $2 million bail and will be arraigned June 8.

The indictment alleges Gallo caused the accident by running a red light. Police said Gallo was arrested about 30 minutes after leaving the accident scene on foot.
