CHICAGO, May 27 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs snapped an eight-game losing streak Tuesday by knocking off Pittsburgh 6-1 in a rain-shortened game at Wrigley Field.
Micah Hoffpauir drove in a pair of runs and Sean Marshall (3-3) gave up four hits and struck out six over five innings in game that was called with the Pirates batting in a downpour in the sixth inning.
Just before the heavens opened, the Cubs put three runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth against Pirates starter Ian Snell (1-6), who was pushed around for six runs on eight hits over five innings. Snell struck out four but also walked four as the Pirates' winning streak stalled at two games.
Hoffpauir, Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot singled in the fifth to drive in a run apiece.
Kosuke Fukudome hit a solo home run in the first inning to open the scoring. The Cubs added single runs on Marshall's RBI single in the second and an RBI double in the third by Hoffpauir that put Chicago ahead 3-0.
Pittsburgh got on the board in the fourth on a single by Robinzon Diaz that scored Nate McClouth, who had walked to lead off the inning.
