
NEW YORK, May 26 (UPI) -- Gary Sheffield hit a three-run homer for the second straight game Tuesday to lead the New York Mets to a 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals.
Livan Hernandez (4-1) allowed one run on nine hits with six strikeouts in the first complete game of the season for New York, which has won four of it last five. It was Hernandez's 46th complete game of his career.
Adam Dunn went 2-for-3 with a home run and had the 1,000th hit of his career. Josh Willingham and Cristian Guzman also had two hits for the Nationals, who have lost 11 of their last 13 games.
Craig Stammen (0-1) lasted five innings in his second major league appearance. He gave up three runs on seven hits.
The injury-riddled Mets placed shortstop Jose Reyes (right calf) and outfielder Ryan Church (right hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
