CHICAGO, May 23 (UPI) -- Clayton Richard held the Pirates to four hits in six scoreless innings Saturday, pacing the Chicago White Sox to a 4-0 win over Pittsburgh.
Richard (1-0) threw 107 pitches with three walks and eight strikeouts.
His effort came despite rumors he was being used to bait veteran right-hander Jake Peavy to accept a trade from the San Diego Padres.
Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Jermaine Dye's lone hit was an eighth-inning solo shot and Paul Konerko hit a fourth-inning RBI single for the White Sox, who won for the fourth time in five games, despite just six hits.
Andy LaRoche had two of the five hits for the Pirates, who have dropped three straight.
Losing pitcher Ross Ohlendorf (5-4) gave up four runs -- three earned -- and six hits in 7 2/3 innings.
