BOSTON, May 23 (UPI) -- Omir Santos hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning Saturday, delivering the New York Mets a 3-2 inter-league victory over Boston.
With Boston leading 2-1, Garry Sheffield on second base and two outs, Santos launched a fastball from closer and losing pitcher Jonathan Papelbon (0-1) over the Green Monster at Fenway Park.
The drive initially was called a double, but umpiring crew chief Joe West called it a homer.
Sheffield hit an RBI single in the first, while Santos had two of the six hits for the Mets, who have won two straight.
The winner was Pedro Feliciano (1-1). J.J. Putz earned his second save.
Starter Mike Pelfrey yielded two earned runs and six hits in seven innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
Boston's Kevin Youkilis hit a two-run single that put the Red Sox up 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
Dustin Pedroia had two of the six hits for the Sox, who have lost two in a row following a three-game winning streak.
Josh Beckett yielded an unearned run and five hits in eight innings.
