FOXBOROUGH, Mass., May 23 (UPI) -- Cornell and Syracuse won Saturday to advance to Monday's NCAA lacrosse final.
In one semifinal, Rob Pannell had three goals and three assists to lead Cornell to a 15-6 win over Virginia. Ryan Hurley also had three goals and an assist, while Chris Finn also scored three times as the Big Red advanced to the championship game for the first time since 1988.
In the other semifinal, Kenny Nams and Patrick Perritt each scored four goals to lead Syracuse to a 17-7 win over Duke.
The defending champions advanced to the championship game for the 16th time. The Orange's eighth straight win ended Duke's string of nine straight wins. Syracuse will seek to increase its NCAA record of 10 lacrosse championships.
Danny Glading and Steele Stanwick each had two goals for the top-seeded Cavaliers. Zach Howell and Max Quinzani each scored three goals for Duke. The Blue Devils finished as the runner-up in 2005 and 2007, and last year lost in the semifinals.
