MINNEAPOLIS, May 22 (UPI) -- Former Indiana Pacers executive David Kahn has been named head of basketball operations for the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves.
In nine years with the Pacers, Kahn, 47, was the team's general manager and a special adviser.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported he left the Pacers in 2004 and recently has been involved with the NBA's D (instructional) league and the Saint Paul Pioneer Press said owner Glen Taylor hired Kahn before he had a chance to withdraw his name from consideration.
"This is a milestone decision for our franchise and I couldn't be more excited by our choice," Davis said on the team's Web site after the announcement. "(David) has clearly demonstrated that he has the intelligence, creativity, leadership and passion to take our team to the next level."
Kahn's hiring leaves the futures of head coach Kevin McHale, general manager Jim Stack and assistant general managers Fred Hoiberg and Rob Babcock in limbo until he speaks with them next week.
