PARIS, May 22 (UPI) -- Top-ranked Dinara Safina will play Britain's Anne Keothavong in the opening round of the French Open, which begins Sunday in Paris. Safina lost in last year's title match to Ana Ivanovic.
Second-seeded Serena Williams, who beat Safina in this year's Australian Open final, will open in Paris against Czech Klara Zakopalova.
Williams' sister, Venus, seeded No. 3, plays fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the first round.
The Williams sisters are on opposite sides of the draw, setting up the possibility of an all-Williams final. Safina has not won a major. The Williams sisters have a combined 17 major titles. Safina is on Venus Williams' side of the draw.
Three-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova of Russia, who missed almost 10 months with a shoulder injury, is entered as an unseeded player.
