KITZBUHEL, Austria, May 21 (UPI) -- No. 7 Mikhail Youzhny is the only seeded player remaining in the Austrian Open after he upset second-seeded Jurgen Melzer in Thursday's quarterfinals.
Youzhny faced one break point in eliminating Melzer, 6-4, 6-4. It was the third consecutive clay-court meeting between the two that Youzhny won. He did it on the receiving end, breaking Melzer's serve three times in 10 games.
Also upset Thursday was third-seeded Victor Hanescu, who was dumped, 6-2, 6-2, by Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Hanescu managed to win just 40 percent of the points in the match.
Julien Benneteau got past Daniel Koellerer, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, and Oscar Hernandez defeated Juan Ignacio Chela, 6-4, 6-4, in the other quarterfinal matches.
Youzhny is to go against Garcia-Lopez, who is 0-2 versus Youzhny in his career, and Benneteau meets Hernandez in Friday's semifinals. Benneteau is 2-1 against Hernandez.
