NEW YORK, May 21 (UPI) -- A Notre Dame official hopes Yankee Stadium can be site of future Fighting Irish football games, the New York Times said.

New Yankee Stadium opened in April when the 2009 Major League Baseball season started but the former stadium was the site of past contests involving the Fighting Irish.

Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said the Irish would love to play Army at Yankee Stadium in 2013 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1913 contest.

"It would be of great historical significance for us if it would be Army," Swarbrick told the newspaper. "Some of the most significant games in the history of college football involve those two schools and Yankee Stadium."

The Irish won the 1913 contest 35-13 after they received $1,000 to play the Cadets at Yankee Stadium.
