NEW YORK, May 21 (UPI) -- Robinson Cano drove in three runs during an early New York outburst Thursday and the Yankees stormed to their ninth consecutive victory -- 7-4 over Baltimore.
The last seven wins have come in New York and the Yankees continued to dominate in their new stadium by taking a 6-0 lead through two innings and then coasting despite an early exit by starting pitcher Joba Chamberlain.
Chamberlain was hit in the knee by a line drive off the bat of Adam Jones in the first inning. The New York pitcher recovered in time to throw out Jones at first, but then surrendered singles to Nick Markakis and Aubrey Huff.
Alfredo Aceves (3-0) came on to replace Chamberlain, worked out of the first-inning jam and wound up throwing 3 1/3 innings to get the victory.
Cano had an RBI double during the Yankees' four-run first and then hit a two-run blast in the second. Melky Cabrera added a two-run double in the opening inning and Hideki Matsui contributed a solo homer in the fifth.
New York used five pitchers, with Mariano Rivera working the ninth for his ninth save.
Adam Eaton (2-5) took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.
