LOS ANGELES, May 21 (UPI) -- Russell Martin singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth Wednesday, lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers a 2-1 win over the New York Mets.
Los Angeles has won seven of its last eight games, all against teams from the National League East.
The Mets produced 11 base runners, but could score only on Carlos Beltran's RBI double in the third. That tied the game at 1-1, where it stayed until the Dodgers scraped out a run against J.J. Putz (1-3).
Orlando Hudson singled with one out in the Los Angeles eighth and Andre Ethier drew a walk. That brought up Martin, who singled to left-center on a 1-0 pitch to bring in Hudson.
Jonathan Broxton came on in the ninth to protect the lead and gave up a one-out base hit to Angel Pagan. After Jeremy Reed popped up for the second out of the inning, Pagan stole second.
Ramon Martinez then grounded out to third, ending the game and giving Broxton his 11th save.
Brent Leach (1-0), making his seventh major league appearance, got his first career win by retiring the only two men he faced in the eighth.
