WARSAW, Poland, May 20 (UPI) -- Maria Sharapova, in her first tournament in about nine months, was an easy second-round winner Wednesday at the $600,000 Warsaw Open in Poland.
Sharapova has seen her ranking go from No. 1 to 126 in the last year because a shoulder injury has kept her off the court since last August. She was granted wild-card entry into the Warsaw Open and has won twice, including Wednesday's 6-2, 6-0 victory over Darya Kustova.
Sharapova dominated the second set, allowing Kustova only four points in her three service games.
Two seeded players fell in straight sets in second-round play. No. 3-seeded Zheng Jie was ousted 6-0, 6-4 by Klara Zakopalova and fifth-seeded Sara Errani dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Alexandra Dulgheru.
No. 6-seeded Daniela Hantuchova posted an easy 6-3, 6-1 win over Urszula Radwanska by breaking her serve five times. Eighth-seeded Alona Bondarenko cruised by Marta Domachowska and will meet Sharapova in the next round.
In other second-round matches Ioana Raluca Olaru topped Julia Goerges 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (7-3), Anna Keothavong defeated Jill Craybas 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and Galina Voskoboeva stopped Kateryna Bondarenko 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
