Germany stays unbeaten in team tournament

DUSSELDORF, Germany, May 20 (UPI) -- Philipp Kohlschreiber claimed a tough three-set win Wednesday that kept Germany undefeated in the ATP World Team Championship.

Kohlschreiber won a 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-3 match over world No. 9-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to lock up Germany's round-robin best-of-three series against France.

The German doubles team of Nicolas Kiefer and Mischa Zverev completed the sweep of France with a 6-0, 6-4 rout of Jeremy Chardy and Gilles Simon in 41 minutes.

Germany is 2-0 in Red Group play and goes against Sweden (2-0) for the group title and the right to play in Saturday's title matches. France and the United States are both 0-2 in Red Group round-robin play.

Argentina stayed alive in the tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Italy with Maximo Gonzalez sealing the series with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-4 win over Simone Bolelli and then Francesco Piccari and Andreas Seppi took a doubles match. Serbia finished off a sweep of Russia with Nenad Zimonjic and Viktor Troicki's 6-1, 6-1 blowout of Russians Evgeny Korolev and Stanislav Vovk.

Serbia is 2-0 in Blue Group play while Italy and Argentina are both 1-1. Russia is 0-2. The final matches in the group round robin have Serbia playing Italy and Argentina against Russia.
