
ST. LOUIS, May 19 (UPI) -- Mat Gamel, making his first career start, hit a three-run homer Monday to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Jason Kendall had two hits and an RBI. He singled in the second inning for his 2,000th career hit.
Ryan Braun had two hits, an RBI and scored four times for the Brewers, who have won 20 of their last 25 games.
Braden Looper (4-2), who compiled 33 wins over the previous three seasons for the Cardinals allowed three runs and three hits in six plus innings for the win.
Kyle Lohse (3-3) lost his third straight start, giving up four runs on four hits in four innings.
Colby Rasmus and Skip Schumaker each hit two-run homers in the seventh inning for the Cardinals, who lost for the seventh time in nine games.
