DETROIT, May 19 (UPI) -- Dontrelle Willis pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings Tuesday and Detroit ended Texas' seven-game winning streak with a 4-0 victory.
Willis (1-0) gave up a first-inning double and a walk before retiring the next 17 batters. He allowed two walks and struck out five. It was Willis' first win since Sept. 25, 2007, when he beat the Chicago Cubs while with Florida.
Four Tigers relievers completed the one-hitter by allowing no hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Willis, the National League's Rookie of the Year in 2003 with the Marlins, was acquired by the Tigers along with Miguel Cabrera in an eight-player deal in December 2007. He made only eight appearances with the Tigers last season due to injury and finished with an 0-2 record.
Cabrera went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored for Detroit, which has won seven of its last 10 games.
