Mets first baseman to have hip surgery

LOS ANGELES, May 18 (UPI) -- New York Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado will have athroscopic surgery Tuesday on his right hip to remove a bone spur and repair a torn labrum.

New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez was sidelined two months for a similar operation. Delgado is expected to be out for about the period.

In 26 games this season, Delgado is batting .298 with 23 RBI, 15 runs and four home runs.
