KITZBUHEL, Austria, May 18 (UPI) -- No. 3-seeded Victor Hanescu rallied Monday for a win in the first round of the Austrian Open.

Hanescu only dropped his serve once but needed 2 hours, 45 minutes to dispose of Nicolas Lapentti 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 7-5. Even though he won 76 percent of the points on serve, Hanescu had trouble putting Lapentti away.

Seventh-seeded Mikhail Youzhny had an earlier time in a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win over Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

In matches involving unseeded players: Agustin Calleri advanced when Yen-Hsun Lu retired in the third set due to illness; Nicolas Massu stopped Robin Vik 6-4, 6-2; Andreas Beck defeated Jan Hernych 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 and Marcel Granollers took out Teimuraz Gabashvili 7-6 (13-11), 6-3.

Also, Daniel Koellerer advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Thomaz Bellucci.

Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko withdrew from the tournament Monday, citing a foot injury.
