US OPEN TENNIS DAY 7 IN NEW YORK

STRASBOURG, France, May 18 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Sybille Bammer fell to a crowd favorite Monday in the first round of the $220,000 Strasbourg International tennis tournament in France.

Bammer was dumped 6-2, 6-2 in 57 minutes by Aravane Rezai, from Saint-Etienne, France. Bammer dropped her serve four times out of eight tries and couldn't answer Razai's more consistent serves.

Third-seeded Peng Shuai and No. 4-seeded Gisela Dulko each advanced in the clay-court tournament. Peng dropped the first set but came on strong in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Alexa Glatch. Dulko faced just three break points in a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win over Mara Santangelo.

Kristina Barrois and Ayumi Morita also made it out of the first round with wins Monday.

Anabel Medina Garrigues is the tournament's top seed. She's won the tournament three times, including each of the last two years.
