MADRID, May 16 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Dinara Safina and 11-ranked Carolina Wozniacki had straight-set wins Saturday in semifinal play of the $4.5 million Madrid Open.

Safina advanced to her third finals appearance in as many tournaments with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Patty Schnyder. Safina overcame five double faults -- she had six in Friday's quarterfinals match -- for the win.

Wozniacki needed nearly two hours to finish off a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory over Amelie Mauresmo. She got 80 percent of her first serves in and broke Mauresmo's serve five times in the match.

Safina has won 13 of her last 14 matches. She was the runner-up two weeks ago at Stuttgart and won the tournament at Rome last Sunday. Those tournaments, like Madrid, are on clay and the clay-court French Open begins May 25.

Wozniacki, who has never played Safina, is also looking for her second championship of the year. She won in April in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. She is 17-3 over her last five tournaments.
