SAN ANTONIO, May 16 (UPI) -- Defending champion Zach Johnson posted a 10-under 60 Saturday to take a three-stroke lead at the rain-suspended PGA Texas Open.
Johnson missed a 19-foot birdie putt at the 18th hole while trying to become only the fourth player in PGA Tour history to shoot a 59 in official competition. The 2007 Masters champion made an 84-yard eagle at No. 7 and made five birdies during a seven-hole stretch ending at the 17th.
His 60 gave him a 15-under 195 when the third round was suspended due to darkness.
Second-round leader Paul Goydos and three-time Texas Open winner Justin Leonard were in second place at 12-under and on the 13th hole when play was stopped.
A strong storm that dumped several inches of rain on course caused a weather delay of nearly five hours. Only 14 players were still on the course when the round was finally suspended for the day.
