PITTSBURGH, May 15 (UPI) -- Brad Hawpe put Colorado in front with a ninth-inning homer Friday and the Rockies, shut out through eight frames, downed Pittsburgh 3-1.
Pittsburgh starter Paul Maholm allowed just five hits through seven innings before turning things over to the bull pen and Tyler Yates combined with John Grabow to keep the shutout going in the eighth.
Matt Capps (0-3) came on in the ninth and gave up the lead before he could retire a batter. Ian Stewart opened the ninth with a double and Hawpe then hit a 1-1 pitch out to center.
Ryan Spilborghs followed with a single and eventually scored the third run of the inning on a base hit by Matt Murton.
Alan Embree (1-1) got the win by pitching the eighth and Huston Street struck out the side in the ninth for his fifth save.
Pittsburgh's run came in the sixth off starter Jorge de la Rosa, who allowed seven hits and struck out 10 over seven innings.
