HOOVER, Ala., May 15 (UPI) -- Dan Forsman's 7-under-par 65 Friday helped him grab a one-stroke lead after 18 holes at the Champions Tour's Regions Charity Golf Classic in Alabama.
His round included eight birdies and just one bogey at the par-4 ninth.
He leads the trio of Keith Fergus, Larry Mize and Hal Sutton.
"Momentum can go quickly," an apprehensive Forsman told the Birmingham News. "You can be just off a touch and now all the sudden you're down two shots. It's a little adjustment out here because on the regular tour you've got four days."
Forsman won five PGA tournaments and won the AT&T Champions Classic at Valencia, Calif., in March.
Five golfers -- Jim Thorpe, Keith Fergus, Tom McKnight, Chris Starkjohann and Gil Morgan -- are tied for fifth heading into Saturday's second round at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Hoover, Ala.
Defending champion Andy Bean opened with a 2-under 70 and is tied with 11 others in 31st place.
