ANAHEIM, Ariz., May 13 (UPI) -- Boston scored three runs in the last two innings Tuesday and Jonathan Papelbon picked up a save as the Red Sox rallied past the LA Angels of Anaheim 4-3.

Papelbon slammed the door on the Angels for his ninth save with Bobby Abreu in scoring position to preserve the win for Ramon Ramirez (4-0) who pitched the eighth.

The Red Sox got into position to win the game with a pair of runs in the eighth that tied it 3-3. Jason Varitek then put Boston ahead 4-3 in the ninth with an RBI double off Scot Shields (1-3) that brought J.D. Drew home from first base.

Anaheim, which had won four consecutive games, took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Kendry Morales.

Drew tied the contest with a solo home run in the second, but Maicer Izturis put the Angels ahead 2-1 with a sacrifice fly that scored Howie Kendrick. Torii Hunter drove in the Angeles' third run with a single in the seventh to make it 3-1.

Boston tied the game in the eighth when Anaheim reliever Darren Oliver hit David Ortiz with a pitch with the bases loaded. Shields was brought in to face Bay, who grounded to first, allowing the tying run to score from third.
