Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
DAVIE, Fla., May 13 (UPI) -- Veteran defensive end Jason Taylor has signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins.
No terms were disclosed, but the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported he agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million.
Last season, Taylor, 34, spent an injury-plagued 2008 with the Washington Redskins after playing 11 seasons for the Dolphins. He was released by Washington in March after a reported contract dispute.
The Dolphins traded him to Washington for two draft picks.
Taylor suffered a knee injury in the preseason and in the regular season, was hampered by a nagging calf injury.
"Jason told me, 'Tell the Dolphins whatever fits their budget,'" Taylor's agent, Gary Wichard, told ESPN. "My tremendous loyalty to a great organization made this an easy decision."
The league's Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 had career-lows of 29 tackles and his 3 1/2 sacks last season, but his 120 1/2 career sacks with eight touchdowns are the most by an NFL defensive lineman since 1970.
"That whole year was a blur," linebacker Joey Porter, a fellow pass rushing phenom, told the Florida Sun-South Sentinel about playing with Taylor in 2007. "But that's behind us. Looking forward ... we can definitely use him."
