LONDON, May 11 (UPI) -- Novak Djokovic won the Serbia Open championship but the tournament title wasn't enough to allow him to retain the world No. 3 ranking.
Djokovic was a 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) winner over Lukasz Kubot in the final Sunday of the inaugural Serbia Open. That improved Djokovic to 34-10 on the year, which is second only to world No. 1 Rafael Nadal's 38-3 mark in 2009.
But ratings points are accumulated over a longer period and Andy Murray on Monday overtook Djokovic and is ranked No. 3 in the world. Djokovic had been ranked third since Aug. 6, 2007, and is now fourth but is right behind Murray.
Nadal has 15,360 ratings points while second-ranked Roger Federer has 10,170. Murray is at 8,990 and Djokovic has 8,920.
There is sharp drop off in points to No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro (4,720 points) and Andy Roddick (4,040) is sixth. No. 7-rated Gilles Simon (4,030) and eighth-ranked Fernando Verdasco (3,900) again switched places in the rankings. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (3,455) remained ninth and Gael Monfils (3,310) is 10th.
