WASHINGTON, May 9 (UPI) -- Evgeni Malkin's overtime power play goal Saturday boosted Pittsburgh to a 4-3 win over Washington and a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The loss was Washington's seventh straight in playoff overtimes.

Malkin scored his game-winner shortly after a two-minute tripping penalty against Washington's Milan Jurcina.

The contest went to overtime after Washington's Alexander Ovechkin scored his 10th goal of the playoffs, creating a 3-3 tie at 15:52 of the third period.

Malkin and Jordan Staal led the Penguins with a goal and an assist each. Ruslan Fedotenko and Matt Cooke also scored, while goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was credited with 28 saves on 31 shots for the Penguins, who can win the best-of-seven with a victory Monday in Game 6 at home.

Ovechkin led the Capitals with two goals and one assist.

Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist, while Simeon Varlamov was beaten four times on 42 shots for the Capitals, who have lost three straight after a 2-0 lead.
