NHL: Detroit 6, Anaheim 3

ANAHEIM, Calif., May 8 (UPI) -- Johan Franzen and Marian Hossa scored two goals each Thursday and the Detroit Red Wings evened their conference semifinal series with a 6-3 win over Anaheim.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings ended a two-game losing streak and bounced back from a controversial setback Tuesday to tie the series at 2-2. Detroit will host Game 5 Sunday.

Franzen scored twice in the first period to give Detroit a 2-1 lead, but Corey Perry delivered his second goal of the game with 8:57 left in the second to pull the Ducks into a tie.

Hossa then took over, scoring on a wrist shot with 3:58 to go in the second and producing a power-play goal with 56 seconds to go in the stanza.

Mikael Samuelsson eventually drove goaltender Jonas Hiller from the game by scoring 2:46 into the third. Hiller gave up five goals on 33 shots before being replaced by Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

Henrik Zetterberg added an empty-net goal for the Red Wings with 3:33 to play, offsetting a score by Scott Niedermayer midway through the third period that briefly brought the Ducks within two.

Chris Osgood made 25 saves to get the win.

Anaheim is trying to pull off its second straight big upset in the playoffs, having eliminated the top-seeded San Jose Sharks in six games to start the post-season.

The Ducks took the series lead with a 2-1 victory Tuesday in a game the Red Wings appeared to have tied with 65 seconds left in the third period. Hossa poked a loose puck past Hiller to seemingly tie that game, but the referee whistled the play dead because he had lost sight of the puck.
