SAN DIEGO, May 7 (UPI) -- Justin Upton accounted for all of Arizona's runs on a pair of homers Wednesday, bringing the Diamondbacks a 3-1 win over San Diego.
Upton hit a two-run homer in the sixth and a solo shot in the eighth, after which Chad Qualls recorded a shaky save to end Arizona's three-game losing streak.
Qualls loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth before getting Henry Blanco to ground into a run-scoring double play.
Jody Gerut moved from second to third on the play and Luis Rodriguez then drew a walk to put the tying runs on base. Qualls, however, struck out Chase Headley on three pitches to end the game and collect his seventh save.
The win went to Jon Garland, who threw seven shutout innings while allowing three hits.
The first of Upton's homers came off losing pitcher Jake Peavy (2-4), who gave up only three other hits and struck out a dozen over seven innings.
