MINNEAPOLIS, May 6 (UPI) -- Minnesota Vikings Coach Brad Childress left Minneapolis late Wednesday to meet with retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre, the Star Tribune reported.
The Minneapolis newspaper said Childress wants to discuss the possibility of the twice-retired Favre, a likely Hall of Famer, playing for the Vikings next season.
The meeting likely was in Hattiesburg, Miss., near Favre's home in Kiln.
Minnesota's interest initially was reported Tuesday evening and the story has turned into full-blown hysteria from national media outlets in less than 24 hours.
Favre announced his latest retirement in January after a season-ending losing streak cost the New York Jets a chance to appear in the 2008 playoffs.
The seven-time All-Pro and 10-time Pro Bowl pick suffered a torn biceps tendon late last season, but has not had surgery this off-season to repair the damage.
Neither the Vikings nor Favre have commented about the latest reported developments.
Favre is the NFL's all-time record holder in several categories, including wins by a starting quarterback, passing yards, touchdowns, interceptions and consecutive games started.
