OAKLAND, Calif., May 6 (UPI) -- Gary Matthews had a pair of hits and three RBI and Chone Figgins drove in two runs Tuesday, delivering the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim over Oakland 5-3.

Eric Aybar also had two hits and scored twice to support Shane Loux (2-2), who threw seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and striking out three.

The Athletics, who lost for the fifth time in seven tries, were led by Matt Holliday, who hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Scott Shields. Shields was then pulled in favor of Brian Fuentes who got the last two outs to notch his seventh save.

Oakland starter Dallas Braden (3-3) gave up five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits over six innings.

Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on two-out RBI singles by Figgins and Matthews after Juan Rivera reached base on a fielding error by Bobby Crosby and Aybar singled.

Holliday scored on Travis Buck's double in the home half of the second to make it 2-1. However Matthews drove in two runs with a double in the fourth and Figgins drove in the fifth Angels run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
