SEATTLE, May 3 (UPI) -- Gregorio Petit's third hit Saturday, a ninth-inning RBI single, gave the Oakland Athletics a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners.
Oakland's Jason Giambi had two hits and two RBI and his eighth-inning RBI single set the stage for Petit's game-winner for the Athletics, who had lost their previous four contests against the Mariners this season.
The winner was reliever Andrew Bailey (3-0), the second of three Oakland pitchers, who gave up an earned run and three hits in two innings in relief of starter Trevor Cahill. Michael Wuertz earned his second save.
Seattle scored on Russell Branyan's second-inning solo homer and a seventh-inning sacrifice fly by Endy Chavez. Branyan, Ichiro Suzuki and Franklin Gutierrez all had two hits for the Mariners, who have split their last four contests.
The losing pitcher was reliever David Aardsma (0-1).
