FES, Morocco, May 2 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues blasted Ekaterina Makarova 6-1, 6-1 Saturday to capture the Moroccan Grand Prix at Fes for her ninth career title.

Medina Garrigues, a native of Valencia, Spain, was the runner-up to Argentina's Gisela Dulko in last year's final. She needed just 60 minutes Saturday to dismantle her inexperienced Russian foe.

She advanced Friday when her semifinal opponent, Hungary's Melinda Czink, retired after losing the first set 6-0, complaining of a gastrointestinal illness.

Medina Garrigues won titles at Palermo, Italy, four times (2001, 2004-2006), Strasbourg, Germany, three times (2005, 2007, 2008) and Canberra, Australia, once (2006).

Before this week, Makarova's best results were quarterfinals at Eastbourne, England, Forest Hills, N.Y., and Seoul, all last season.
