RICHMOND, Va., May 2 (UPI) -- Kyle Busch gave himself a 24th birthday present Saturday by winning the Sprint Cup Russ Friedman 400 auto race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver in the No. 18 Toyota passed Jeff Gordon for the lead with 48 laps remaining and then crossed the finish line 2.752 seconds ahead of Tony Stewart to complete a NASCAR sweep this weekend at the 3/4-mile track.
He also won Friday's Nationwide Lipton Tea 250 and Saturday's victory made him the second driver to win a Cup race on his birthday.
It was his first win in Richmond and the 15th of his Sprint Cup career.
"This team is awesome," Busch said about his crew during a post-race interview. "We didn't have the best car by a long shot, but we made it work."
Stewart finished second, Jeff Burton third, Ryan Newman fourth and Mark Martin was fifth.
