GIRONA, Spain, May 1 (UPI) -- Thomas Levet fired a 5-under 67 Friday that put him two shots in front of Soren Hansen midway through the Spanish Open.
Levet suffered a lone bogey while reaching 13-under 131 for two trips around the Golf de Catalunya course. Hansen, who produced a course-record 63 in the opening round, was at 133 after making a double bogey on the final hole Friday.
Defending champion Peter Lawrie was alone in third at 134 while Alejandro Canizares and Chris Wood shared fourth place at 136.
John Daly, trying his hand on the European circuit while serving what he has said is a suspension from the PGA Tour, survived the 36-hole cut with a 142 total. European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, however, shot an 81 Friday and had the fourth-worst score in the field at 153.
