ATLANTA, April 29 (UPI) -- Joe Johnson keyed a second-period run Wednesday and Atlanta seized control of its first-round playoff series by storming past Miami 106-91.
The Hawks took a 3-2 lead in the series and can close out the Heat when Miami hosts the sixth game Friday.
Miami received a shock late in the first quarter when superstar Dwyane Wade fell to the floor and hit his head hard on the court.
Wade returned in the second period and eventually played 39 minutes, scoring 29 points.
Atlanta used a 14-2 run in the second quarter to open a 63-40 advantage at halftime and Miami was unable to make a significant surge during the final two periods.
Johnson scored five of his 25 points during the key stretch, which began with Atlanta in front by just three and finished with the Hawks owning a 40-25 lead with 7:19 to play in the half.
Ronald Murray added 23 points for the Hawks and Joe Smith had 20. Atlanta went to the foul line 41 times and made 33 of the attempts.
Atlanta, however, suffered the loss of center Al Horford in the first half. He left the game and did not return due to a sprained right ankle. The injury will be re-evaluated Thursday.
The Hawks have erased a 2-1 deficit in the series, winning on Miami's court Monday while limiting the Heat to 71 points.
