CLEVELAND, April 29 (UPI) -- Jonathan Van Every, playing in his fourth major league game, homered in the 10th inning Wednesday, delivering Boston a 6-5 victory over Cleveland.
Called up from Class AAA Pawtucket last Friday, Van Every had his first major league hit in the eighth inning to drive in a run and then completed a huge night with a two-out, solo homer.
The Red Sox came from five runs down to win for the 12th time in 13 games. Cleveland had ended Boston's 11-game winning streak Tuesday.
The Indians took a 5-0 lead through four innings, thanks in part to homers by Mark DeRosa and Kelly Shoppach.
Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek began the Boston rally with RBI doubles in the sixth and the Red Sox tied it with a three-run eighth that included a run-scoring single from Van Every.
His homer came off Jensen Lewis (2-3).
Hideki Okajima (2-0) picked up the win by pitching a scoreless ninth. Jonathan Papelbon worked the 10th for his sixth save.
