NEW YORK, April 26 (UPI) -- Jordan Zimmermann yielded a run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings Sunday to lead the Washington Nationals to an easy 8-1 win over the New York Mets.
The rookie right-hander rose to 2-0 while walking two batters, fanning five and keeping New York from building its coveted big inning outburst.
At the plate, he was helped by two hits -- one a two-run second-inning homer -- and three RBI for Jesus Flores.
One of two hits for Austin Kearns was a fifth-inning solo homer, while three others had two hits for the Nationals, who have won only four times in 17 contests and got their first road victory this season.
New York scored on a first-inning triple by Carlos Delgado.
Five others had one hit for the Mets, who have lost five of seven.
Losing pitcher Oliver Perez (1-2) gave up seven earned runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
