
SAN DIEGO, April 26 (UPI) -- Zach Duke came within two outs of a complete game Saturday and the Pittsburgh Pirates recorded a 10-1 rout of the San Diego Padres.
Duke (3-1) gave up an earned run and six hits in 8 1/3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts. The only run he surrendered scored on a groundout by Adrian Gonzalez with one out in the bottom of the sixth.
Craig Monroe led the Pirates at the plate with three hits and three RBI. Andy LaRoche had two hits and two RBI, and Freddy Sanchez had three hits for the Pirates, who have won four of five.
Kevin Kouzmanoff had two of the six hits for the Padres, who have dropped four of five.
Losing pitcher Shawn Hill (1-1) surrendered three earned runs and five hits in two innings before leaving with a strained right forearm.
